Symptoms:

Most people have experienced back pain at some point in their lives. Some symptoms are:

  • Pain running along the spine
  • Sharp localized pain, especially after doing some strenuous activity.
  • CAUTION! Do not mistake the symptoms of a heart attack for back pain!
  • Low pain that radiates into the hips and glutes (gluteus maximus, medius and minimus muscles that are located in the thighs and buttocks).

Causes:

The causes of back pain are numerous and can happen through no fault of your own. It can be caused by sciatica, herniated discs, degenerative disc diseases, osteomyelitis, ankylosing spondylitis, sacroiliitis, spinal stenosis , osteoarthritis, tumors and other diseases. It can also be caused as a side effect of some medications like statins that lower cholesterol.

Some back pain is caused by accidents, lifting heavy objects, being overweight, pregnancy, doing certain exercises incorrectly, lifting weights, and multiple sports activities.

Back pain is frequently the result of problems in the abdominal area including infections, kidney and bladder diseases. It is also experienced by those who have fibromyalgia.

Because there are so many causes of back pain, according to the North American Spine Society, 80% of the population over 30 years of age will experience back pain at some time in their remaining life.

Power Massage Treatment:

Pain-reducing medications, massage and chiropractic adjustments are common treatments for back pain. At Power Massage, we use a form of neuro-muscular reeducation and by working with our clients, together we can achieve immediate results that have been unavailable before. We do this by reducing muscle inflammation and elongating the muscles which gives us the results your looking for.

Not all massage is the same. The neuro-muscular technique used by our staff of professional therapists has been very effective for many of our patients. Here is what Claudia said:

“For almost 2 years, I suffered from back pain that was treated through traditional medicine alone. Techniques such as foot wrapping/immobilization and chiropractic adjustments brought no relief. Through a friend’s referral, I went to Bob at Power Massage and felt a positive change after just one session. His deep tissue massage techniques have enabled me to resume everyday activities that I thought I could never enjoy again, such as gardening and walking. Now, after 6 months of twice-monthly sessions, I feel renewed energy and great relief from my pain. Bob has changed my life!”
